In the early 1960's, MIT alumnus Bob Demartini began development of a meshless cover for roof gutters. After almost twenty years of product development and testing, Mr. Demartini applied for the first of several U.S. patents he would acquire.

His many patents vastly improved on earlier designs. These patented improvements were incorporated into the original Gutter Helmet®, the first widely marketed and available gutter protection system to provide homeowners with a permanent alternative to temporary screens.

Gutter Helmet was formally launched on the U.S. east coast in the fall of 1981.The Masco Corporation acquired patent rights to Gutter Helmet in 1989.

Today, Gutter Helmet is manufactured at a state-of-the-art facility outside of Memphis, Tennessee and backed by Hart & Cooley, a $700 million U.S. division of $6 billion+ international corporate giant, Tomkins PLC. Since its introduction, hundreds of thousands of homes have been protected with a professionally installed Gutter Helmet system.

Gutter Helmet management remains on a mission of constant improvement. In the ongoing search for perfection, Gutter Helmet has evolved over the years. Many patents have been granted and two more are pending. But the quest for perfection extends beyond just our product.

We research and analyze warranty claims to pinpoint the source of every claim and eliminate it. Gutter Helmet installers are the most professional team in the industry. Ongoing training, detailed instructional videos, printed instructions and installation seminars are scheduled and updated on a regular basis. A full time technical director is on staff to provide expert assistance to installers nationwide. Gutter Helmet sales and marketing materials clearly state the true performance and benefits of Gutter Helmet without exaggeration or deception. We do not publish half-truths or misleading information about other products. 

Gutter Helmet employs a dedicated team of product development engineers trained in mechanical, hydraulic, coating and flow engineering. Their ongoing challenge is to seek even greater performance improvement. Several design changes and patents have resulted. A few of our latest innovations are:

• PermaLife™, a patented new coating that uses the same space-age polymer technology as Teflon© cookware coatings. PermaLife™ resists dirt build-up and will not fade or deteriorate under UV rays or corrosive pollution.
• Textured panel designs that reduce the weight and stress on gutters by 25% to 40% and are stronger and promote surface tension 45% to 60% better than non-textured products.
• Bracket options for every installation need. Every home is a custom installation. We provide the right option for your home, rather than try to conform your home to our installation method.
